Service Bulletins - Secondary Seat Stops

January 1st, 2012

CESSNA EXTENDS CREDIT PROGRAM…Again!

*This has been extended once again as per SEB07-5 Revision 3 and is valid till December 31, 2013.  If you have not had this free installation done, please give us a call!

Cessna has issued two service bulletins which install secondary seat stops that prevent unintentional seat movement during flight. SEB83-6 announced the availability of service kits that provided for installation of a stop plate which utilized a finger trigger that when actuated would allow the seat to slide back to its maximum travel.

Service bulletin SEB07-5, issued May 14 of 2007, superseded the earlier seat stop design. This secondary seat stop system uses a manually controlled seat belt type reel assembly, which is attached to the seat frame. The free end of the belt from the reel is bolted to the floor. A release cable attached to the reel assembly is connected to the seat latch pin, or seat adjustment handle, depending on the airplane’s seat configuration. The reel assembly is continuously engaged, preventing aft movement of the seat until the seat latch pin is raised above the seat track using the seat adjustment handle. At this point, the release cable will disengage the reel assembly permitting aft movement of the seat.

Cessna has extended the credit program for installation of the secondary seat stop utilizing SEB07-5 to December 31, 2013. Credit includes the parts and labor required to complete the installation on the pilot’s seat of any Cessna airplane listed in the bulletin. To receive credit, the work must be performed by a Cessna Authorized Service Facility.

Cessna highly recommends having this important safety enhancement installed.

Cessna issued a mandatory service bulletin SEB10-1, titled, “Pilot and Copilot Secondary Seat Stop Installation, Reel Assembly Inspection,” to assure seat stop reels with certain date codes are removed from service. Part number 505590-401 reel assemblies, or 505589-401 inertia reels, with a date code of A0408 or A0508 may not operate correctly and require replacement with 505590-403 reel assemblies. Please assure that you are in compliance with SEB10-1, if you have installed the secondary seat stops using SEB07-5.

Cessna is accepting warranty claims for SEB10-1, replacement of the suspect reel, without regard to credit program expiration.
